Vitex agnus-castus, marketed under the name Tenag , is a herbal medicine indicated for the treatment of irregularities of the menstrual cycle, such as having very large or very short intervals between menstruation, absence of menstruation, premenstrual syndrome and symptoms such as breast pain and excess production of prolactin.
This medicine is available in tablets and can be purchased in pharmacies for a price of about 80 reais, upon presentation of a prescription.
What is it for
Vitex agnus-castus is a remedy indicated for the treatment of:
- Oligomenorrhea, which is characterized by very large intervals between menstruation; Polimenorrhea, in which the period between menstruation is very short; Amenorrhea, which is characterized by the absence of menstruation; Premenstrual syndrome; Breast pain; Excessive production of prolactin.

How to use
The recommended dose is 1 40 mg tablet daily, fasting, before breakfast, for 4 to 6 months. The tablets should be taken whole.
Who should not use
This medicine should not be used by people who are hypersensitive to any of the components present in the formula, people who are undergoing hormone replacement treatments or who are taking oral contraceptives or sex hormones and who have metabolic defects in FSH.
In addition, it should also not be used in children under 18, pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding.
Vitex agnus-castus has lactose in its composition and, therefore, should be administered with caution in people with lactose intolerance.
Possible side effects
Some of the most common side effects that may occur during treatment with Vitex agnus-castus are headache, allergic reactions, eczema, hives, acne, hair loss, itching, rashes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and dry mouth.
