How to use

The most common dose is 10 to 20 mg per day. Usually the doctor indicates:

  • Start with 5 mg - 1x a day, then switch to 5 mg twice a day, then 5 mg in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon, finally 10 mg twice a day, which is the target dose. For a safe progression, the minimum interval of 1 week between dose increases must be respected.

This medication should not be used in children and adolescents.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side effects are: mental confusion, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, fatigue, cough, difficulty breathing, constipation, vomiting, increased pressure, back pain.

Less common reactions include heart failure, tiredness, yeast infections, confusion, hallucinations, vomiting, changes in walking and venous blood clotting such as thrombosis and thromboembolism.

When not to be used

Pregnancy risk B, breastfeeding, severe kidney damage. It is also not recommended in case of allergy to memantine hydrochloride or any other component of the formula.
