Darzalex cannot yet be purchased in Brazil, as it has not been approved by Anvisa. However, studies are being done for the drug to be approved.

What is it for

It is indicated for the treatment of adults with relapsing or refractory multiple myeloma, for whom treatment with a proteasome inhibitor and an immunomodulator has already been performed, and has shown disease progression to previous treatment.

How to use

Darzalex should only be used in the hospital and administered by a healthcare professional, as it is necessary to use other medications before and after administration to reduce the risk of side effects.

The general recommendations indicate a dose of 16 mg / kg of weight, being administered by infusion directly into the vein and following the following schedule:

  • Weeks 1 to 8: once a week; Weeks 9 to 24: 1 time every 2 weeks; From week 25: once a month.

Treatment with this medication should be stopped after week 25 if signs of disease develop.

Possible side effects

Some of the most common side effects include respiratory infections, anemia, blood test changes, fever, chills, headaches, decreased appetite, increased blood pressure, cough, stuffy nose, shortness of breath, nausea, diarrhea, prison belly, vomiting, joint pain and excessive tiredness.

Who should not use

Darzalex should not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as children or people who are allergic to any of the components of the formula. In addition, it should be used with caution in patients with liver and kidney problems.
