Mammography is an X-ray examination that can be performed on different types of equipment and therefore it can be a conventional or digital mammography.
Both types are effective in detecting nodules or breast cysts, and are therefore used for early detection of breast cancer. However, digital mammography is more modern and allows a better study of all breast structures, presenting a result closer to the real one.
Main advantages of digital mammography
The main advantages of digital mammography are:
- Cause less pain and discomfort than conventional mammography; Be more suitable for women with large or very dense breasts; Be more reliable in identifying nodules less than 1 cm; Less time exposed to radiation, as the examination is done more quickly; It allows the use of contrast to also evaluate the blood vessels of the breast; The result can be stored in an electronic file, eliminating the need for printing on plates; It allows the printing of images on high quality paper.
However, despite all the advantages over conventional mammography, this exam is more expensive and costs about 250 reais.
