Alpers syndrome or illness is a rare disease that affects children. This congenital disease damages the central nervous system and progresses little by little leading the child not to develop properly.
The symptoms of the disease can begin to be noticed in the first year of the baby's life, although there are cases in which the first symptoms appear only around 5 years of age. In this case, the child is said to be normal and develops without any problem until little by little he loses everything he can already do.
The child loses muscle strength, the limbs become stiff (spasticity) preventing him from walking and he loses his intellectual capacity, progressing to progressive dementia. Physiotherapy and psychomotricity are of great help to these children, so that they have a better quality of life.
